Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many Herberts can I drink in a day? Is there a limit?

The levels of plant actives in Herbert products so that you can enjoy multiple servings per day without any risk of toxicity. That said, it's important to listen to your body. Some people are more affected by certain plants than others.

Generally speaking, three to four bottles per day of any one product (e.g, three bottles of Unwind) is probably a good limit to observe. It is possible to have too much of a good thing.

For the Unwind booster, which has a higher dosage of passionflower than the sparkling phytotonic, it's best not to exceed two servings in the space of six hours.

  • How quickly does Herbert work?

Different plants work at different rates in the body, and everybody processes things a little differently.

That said, Herbert works hard to produce the most bioavailable forms of the plant actives we can in order to make things happen quickly, often in as little as thirty minutes.

For more detailed information about what to expect from each plant, see our Product Pages.

  • Can I drive after drinking Herbert?

Yes, as long as you're not drinking more than the recommended limit.

The ashwagandha in Uplift does have the potential to induce sleepiness in higher doses. Until you know how it effects you, it's wise not to drink more than one bottle before driving.

The passionflower in Unwind can also induce sleepiness in higher doses. Again, best not to drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it effects you.

The Unwind booster should not be consumed before driving or operating heavy machinery.

Clarify poses no risk whatsoever to your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery.

  • Lots of functional beverages and supplements that I see contain more than one herb. Why do you use only one plant in each product?

Using numerous plants in combination to produce a change in the body can certainly be effective. Many healing traditions around the world have used plants in this way. In the hands of a deeply skilled practitioner, plants in combination can sometimes work synergistically to produce effects that no one plant alone could achieve.

All too often, however, commercial herbal products employ combinations that are not only redundant, but may even run the risk of producing unwanted interactions.

Without a clear understanding of how each individual plant may work in a given human body, some formulators throw in everything can think of in the hope that at least one plant will hit the mark. Kind of like throwing spaghetti at the wall, except it isn't spaghetti: it's potent plant medicine, and it isn't the wall--it's your wellbeing.

Using only one plant, on the other hand, gives people the opportunity to discover for themselves how a given plant makes them feel, how it works in their bodies. The plants we use are powerful enough to stand on their own.

  • Should I be worried about the plant I'm consuming in one Herbert interacting negatively with the plant I'm consuming in another?

The plant actives we use across our product range are all safe to use in conjunction with one another.

If you're concerned about interactions with medications you may already be taking, it's best to ask your medical practitioner.

  • Are any of the plants Herbert uses psychoactive?

All of the plants we use have the potential to change the way we feel.

But will they get you high? Definitely not.

The plants we're using, and the amounts we're using them in, are intended to induce subtle shifts in our energy levels and moods, not drastic, instantaneous shifts in perspective.

Herbert products are formulated to help you become more present, not less.

  • At what temperature should I store my beverages?

All of our beverages should be stored in a cool temperature, between 2º and 25º C (35.6º to 77º F) to maintain shelf life. For sparkling products, low- or high-temperature conditions may cause the bottle to break and/ or burst.
